Brisbane winning the right to host the 2032 Olympic and Paralympic Games was a big moment for this city, and if you run a freight or transport company in South East Queensland, it's hard not to start thinking about what it actually means for the way we work over the next six years.

We've been watching the Brisbane Olympics infrastructure rollout closely. There's a $7.1 billion Games Venue Infrastructure Program underway across Queensland, with the federal government tipping in $3.435 billion of that. Seventeen new and upgraded venues are on the list, headlined by the new 63,000-seat stadium going up at Victoria Park. Late last year, the Queensland Government brought on Unite32, a joint venture between Laing O'Rourke and AECOM, as the delivery partner to actually get this built, and procurement has been moving fast through early 2026. Transport infrastructure has now been formally added to the legislated works schedule too, which tells you everything about how seriously this is being taken.

What that means in plain terms: a decade-long construction boom across Brisbane, the Gold Coast and the Sunshine Coast, followed by a genuine surge in freight and transport demand as the Games approach - materials in, equipment in, and eventually, the logistics of running an Olympics on top of business as usual.
