Container Cartage Brisbane

Port of Brisbane to your door, and back again, with MSIC-carded drivers.

Axis Freight Management (AFM) moves import and export containers between the Port of Brisbane and your warehouse, distribution centre or site across Brisbane and South East Queensland. We service the Patrick, DP World and BCT terminals. Our drivers hold MSIC cards for terminal access, and we arrange the terminal bookings and registrations each movement needs. We work from our depot in Wacol, and you deal directly with our team.

Container cartage at the Port of Brisbane

What is container cartage?

Container cartage is the road leg of a sea-freight shipment: collecting a full import container from the wharf and delivering it for unpacking, taking a packed export container to the terminal before the vessel cut-off, and returning the empty when you're done.

It runs on terminal timing. Availability windows, bookings and cut-offs are set by the terminal and the shipping line. A container that isn't collected inside its window starts costing demurrage, and an export that misses its cut-off doesn't sail.

Who uses our container cartage

  • Importers with full containers arriving at the Port of Brisbane that need delivery to a warehouse, DC or site
  • Exporters that need packed containers delivered to the terminal on time for the vessel
  • Freight forwarders, shipping agents and customs brokers who need a reliable local carrier for the Brisbane leg

Our container services

  • Import container collections: full containers collected from the Patrick, DP World and BCT terminals and delivered to your warehouse, distribution centre or site across Brisbane and SEQ.
  • Export container deliveries: packed containers collected from your facility and delivered to the terminal within the vessel cut-off, with the booking and registration handled.
  • Empty container returns: empties returned to depot or terminal inside the return window.
  • LCL and loose freight: pickup and delivery of palletised and loose cargo from port terminals.
  • Onward distribution: where an import needs unpacking, sorting or redistribution, we work with warehouse and cross-dock arrangements, then deliver across SEQ, or interstate on B-double linehaul between Brisbane and Sydney.

Container sizes, trailers and delivery options

We move 20ft, 40ft and high-cube containers on side-loaders, skel trailers and tilt trailers, matched to the container and your site. You choose how it's delivered:

  • Drop and leave: we set the container down at your site, you unpack it in your own time, and we collect the empty.
  • Wait while you unpack: the driver waits on site while you unpack, then takes the empty away.

Tell us your site access and unpack timeframe and we'll recommend the right setup.

Timing, detention and demurrage: how to avoid extra costs

Most extra container costs come from timing. To keep them down:

  • Book early. Send us the container details as soon as the vessel's arrival and availability are known.
  • Know your free days. Check the shipping line's free time and detention terms, and tell us your unpack timeframe.
  • Have the site ready. Confirm access, delivery windows and whether you want drop-and-leave or wait-while-unpacked.
  • Plan the empty return. Give us the return details when you book.
